Chopper over Nitmiluk.
As we found with Kakadu, there is no better way to see the territory than
from the air.


We take off from Nitmiluk “airport”.

Heading out over the gorge,
you can see the plumes of bushfires in the distance.

Down below us the boats of
the tour operators can be seen in the gorge.
Even from the air, the
formidable cliff faces can be appreciated.
It is easy to appreciate the
crevices in the rock that have been cut by the water and run towards the gorge.

pool before it enters the gorge.

As the waters recede from the
wet season, billabongs are created like this one to the right of the gorge.
Parallel crevices in the rock , some containing water and the others filled with
trees.
Water running
off the escarpment cascades into the gorge system.

As we come into land, the
boat shed for the tour operators visible on the riverbank, the entrance to
Nitmiluk beyond.
