For now at least the government may have lost the battle to tweak, tinker or even abolish 18C but with Gillian Triggs tenure about to expire in a few months there is another opportunity to bring the HRC and the application of 18C under control with the appointment of her replacement.
Hopefully someone with sober judgment and greater personal insight and self awareness and not another headline seeking, high minded, condescending, strutting and preening social justice warrior full of their own self importance. Ideally it’ll be someone who has a basic grasp of the pub test and community standards and expectations.
Mind you, judging by Turnbull’s appointment of Justin “nothing to see here, move along” Milne, as the Chairman of the ABC Board, it doesn’t augur well.
