This explains the French system well. Where as we run a preferential system on the one ballot paper on the one day, the French do something very similar over 2 days 2 weeks apart. As I suggested some while back, and it’s confirmed here, I suspect the anti Le Pen forces will gang up and suggest to their supporters to vote for the other candidate irrespective of who it is.
