Tim Flannery what a joke. What an absolute fool of a human being. These quotes have been around a while but in light of the weather over the weekend, worth another run. And the ABC still seeks him out as the sage oracle and guru on climate science despite having no qualifications in the field.
From today’s Cut&Paste in the Oz..
Luckily for the fishes, Flannery has a history of hyperbole. ABC News, June 11, 2005:
Leading environmentalist Professor Tim Flannery has warned that Australia is now entering long-term climate change … (and) predicts that the ongoing drought could leave Sydney’s dams dry in just two years.
Peter Hannam in The Sydney Morning Herald with the local weekend weather report, Thursday:
For Sydney, falls could reach at least 100mm from Saturday to Monday with totals dependent on how long the low lingers just off shore.
Latest Greater Sydney dam levels, WaterNSW website, yesterday:
84.9 per cent full.
Flannery talks to journalist Sally Sara, ABC Lateline, February 11, 2007:
Because the soil is warmer because of global warming … even the rain that falls isn’t actually going to fill our dams and our river systems …
A bet each way. Flannery as climate commissioner also blames climate change for … you guessed it. The Sydney Morning Herald, May 14, 2012:
Climate change “cannot be ruled out” as a factor in recent heavy rainfalls, such as the flash flooding in Sydney on March 8, the wettest March day for more than 25 years, the (Climate Commission) report says.
Academic news analysis website The Conversation with a relevant question, March 6, 2012:
How is it that Tim Flannery could have got it so spectacularly wrong? The most obvious factor could well be Flannery’s lack of background in a climate science … his background is mammalogy — he studied the evolution of mammals.
