It was 5th Century BC, and Greece was the cradle of Western Civilisation. It all happened right here. The Home of Homer, Pythagoras, Archimedes, Aristotle, Socrates. Plato, Euclid…Truly amazing!!
It occurs to me that these ancient ruins not only serve as a limestone and marble sentinel, a reminder, of the past and how a once great civilisation of two thousand years ago has collapsed and vanished, (I bet they didn’t see it coming either and expected it to go on forever) but it also serves as a metaphor for our own way forward and gives pause for thought of where we are today in many respects and the prospects of the survival of our own civilisation into the future if we’re not careful.
