What at a dissembling, smarmy, smug, supercilious and foney prick is Bill Maher.
He tries to cultivate and project the air of an autodidact and resident, contemplative and deep intellect but when caught out on the basics, pretends to have misunderstood or have misheard as he plays for thinking time and tries to mentally regroup.
He doesnt realise that he comes across as your typical, oily lounge lizard or like the Charles Dickens character, the obsequious and unctuous Uriah Heep, slippin’ and slidin’ all over the place and like many, if not most on the left, totally ignorant of well chronicled facts and detail.
He’s got a lot people fooled. Obviously people more ignorant and dumber than he is.
How Megyn Kelly remained civil and upbeat in the presence of such a smug numbskull is a credit to her professionalism.
Random Note Bill Maher (part 2) — Truth and the delusions of the left.
On the back of my previous comments on Bill Maher’s interview with Megyn Kelly, on further reflection it occurs to me that Maher only highlights, underscores and reinforces the long held view that truth is not a left wing virtue.
I’ll say it again. Truth is NOT a left wing virtue, value or characteristic so much as whatever it takes.
It never has been.
Truth, in the sense of “THE” truth, not “A” truth because to the left, truth is relative concept where each person has their own truth and is equally right. Even in the face of inconvenient facts.
The way they view the world, truth and facts are fungible, interchangeable and can be forced to conform to fit their preconceived notions, bias or world view.
To the left, truth is simply a strongly held belief or opinion.
“My opinion or belief is that X is true therefore X must be true”, is their guiding principle.
To the left, truth is a one size fits all commodity.
The logic being that despite the facts, because they strongly believe X and hammer it with Goebels like repetition, both to themselves and others, that belief or opinion overtime becomes “their truth”.
That hammering, just like a panel beater, shapes the truth in their minds at least. In short they believe and then by dent of repetition, fashion and forge their own bullshit.
This was Bill Maher. All cocky and self assured and so convinced that the truth must be what he wanted it to be despite the easily demonstrable reality and facts as outlined by Kelly. He pulled his head in when he knew he was up against it.
It would be easy to ascribe or assign this as delusional, as a psych condition but that’s too easy. It conveys the impression that it’s not their fault, that their brain is somehow wired differently. That it’s brain chemistry. It’s not.
This is slippery, dishonest and deceptive. In their mind, belief and opinion = truth.
There is an old adage among in the legal fraternity that says, , “𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞, 𝐩𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐬; 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐰 𝐨𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞, 𝐩𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐰; 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐰, 𝐩𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞.”
This neatly describes Bill Maher and the left and their rather loose relationship with the truth.
Dear Jim,
Relativistic thinking does not apply in the following example.
It is not the truth when a person believes that 1 + 1 = 3, another person believes that 1+ 1 = 4 and another person believes that 1 + 1 = -5.
In sum it is not acceptable to believe that 1 + 1 is not 2 when it is not the truth.
Thank you
