Random Notes - Idle ThoughtsThis is how you build an airport in 19 months
Take note Canberra. This is how the private sector builds a 2.8 kilometre, 747-400 capable airport complete with taxiways, aprons etc and all in 19 months.
What Thinking Australians Are Thinking
Australians are being taken for a ride by identity politics and its bedmate political correctness. Together, these comprise a fatal disease that is destroying our great society and other democracies around the world.
Le Pen ‘far right’? Mon Dieu, such liars! — Peter Smith, Quadrant
You would think that French deplorables would want to put France first. You would think that they might want to try something new. Things are not exactly going well. Unemployment in France is 10 per cent. Youth unemployment is over 23%. The ratio of government debt to GDP is running at 96% and the budget is in deficit by about 3.5%. Economic growth is anaemic at about 1%. The deficit on international trade is wide. All is not well on the economic front. Then there is the Muslim front.
Forget the fake patriotism and get working on debt — Jennifer Oriel, The Australian
Numerous polls demonstrate Australians’ desire for debt reduction and fiscal repair. However, when government tries to reduce spending, the ABC’s fake news pushers frame spending cuts as unneeded or ideologically driven. The public broadcaster is often criticised for bias but it is unconscionable to mislead the public about the desperate need to reduce government spending and pay down debt.
The rise and rise of Erdogan — Zero Hedge
Things are working out well in Turkey I see. “..Erdogan decided to take his newly decreed powers for a spin and overnight in rapid succession surprised foreign observers when Turkey decreed that it would ban TV dating shows, fire an additional 4,000 public officials and also ban Wikipedia..”
The newly established Paul Ramsey Foundation is in the frame of the hard left — Keith Windschuttle, Quadrant
Still don’t believe that our universities have been taken over by the hard, hard, hard, Marxist left who are out to trash Western Civilisation? With the announcement of the creation of the Paul Ramsey Foundation a month or so ago, charged with the promotion and teaching of Western Civilisation, I wondered just how long it would take before it was infected, infested and captured by the hard left. Guess what??
Keith Windschuttle bells the cat. “..If the Paul Ramsay Foundation funds the University of Sydney to run its Western civilisation program, Professor Jagose is one of the key personnel who will appoint lecturers to teach it and decide how it will be administered and assessed. The foundation should also note that her speciality, queer theory, has no connection whatsoever to any traditional Western academic discipline. It is a recently concocted ideology from identity politics..”
Think of Palestine, Yassmin said, so I did — Andrew Bolt
Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu once said that if the Arabs would lay down their arms there would be no more war but if Israel lay down its arms, their would be no more Israel. This 2 minute video makes his point.
Former Australian of the Year finalist Eman Sharobeem exits boards, SBS amid fraud investigation — Sun Herald
This reads like the cv for Yassmin Abdel Magied except it’s not. It’s another, similar one, from a woman who has been able to oil her way on to a number of multi culti government boards, commissions, councils and committees with what is apparently a fake cv of her background, experience and qualifications (two PhD’s. Psychology and business admin) Her alleged exploits, including credit card fraud and phony qualifications are now the subject of an ICAC investigation.
Female genital mutilation and what we’re really talking about beneath the weasel words ‘genital cutting’ — Ayaan Hirsi Ali
This redefining and diminishing of a barbaric crime, which is what it is, is almost as bad as the original act. What next? Are we going to redefine facial acid attacks because they too seem to have a cultural dimension? What about stoning? And if not why not?
Or closer to home do we redefine domestic violence or rape in aboriginal communities because they are culturally load terms?
Another movie I think we’ve seen before
I think we've seen this movie before. It ended badly for Coopers as I recall, but now Heineken are giving the concept a run.
