The Turnbull government would have us believe that their focus is on bringing down the cost of electricity.
To sum up the problem and expose the myth that neither Turnbull or Shorten can deliver on cheaper electricity, we all we need to understand this basic and fundamental truth.
The inconvenient and uncomfortable truth is that you can’t reduce electricity prices without keeping cheap, base load coal in the energy mix and you can’t keep coal in the mix so long as you’re subsidising renewables to the detriment of coal and making it a nonviable option.
It really is as simple as that. That’s all anyone needs to know.
What Labor and the Greens are proposing is a 20th century supply for a 21st century demand. In an auction on lower emissions it’s a race to the bottom, a race the Liberals simply cannot win on those terms and to carve out a point of policy differentiation they have no choice but to be the party of significantly lower electricity prices. Like it or loathe it, that means coal
It’s a case of either/or, one or the other, because neither party can deliver both.
Anything else they may tell us is the Kool Aid talking. It’s delusional and it’s a lie.
So whenever we hear the political class of either side talking about bringing electricity prices down, remember that single sentence exposes their fraud.
The inconvenient and uncomfortable truth is that you can’t reduce electricity prices without keeping cheap, base load coal in the energy mix and you can’t keep coal in the mix so long as you’re subsidising renewables to the detriment of coal and making it a nonviable option.
