When you peel back all the academic, political and intellectual rhetoric, at its heart, the voice is simply another advocacy and special interest group not dissimilar to the various other voices — The National Farmers Federation, The Business Council of Australia, The Australian Christian lobby or Industry Super Australia, who advocate, lobby and importune on legislation that “affects them” and their respective constituencies.
They all have an argument and an angle they wish to leverage and prosecute.
When viewed through this lens and with the many and varied existing aboriginal lobby groups, and aboriginal members of parliament there should be no need whatsoever for one voice to be embedded in the constitution over all others.
Perhaps these existing lobby groups just need to work smarter and harder and with greater focus to achieve their desired outcomes.
