Reading about yesterday’s shark attack at Dee Why Beach and I’m thinking about how councils will dictate all manner of rules and regulations, guidelines and guardrails.
Fencing and resus signage around a pool makes perfect sense. Even a verandah above 90 centimetres must have a barrier, that too makes sense when it comes to tripping and stumbling.
On the other hand I can walk along ocean front cliff tops literally 500 metres from home and there’s no barriers at all. I’m free to trip, stumble, jump or fall.
But these same councils in my case, The Northern Beaches is all for removing shark nets.
The Pacific Ocean is a pretty big expanse of water and 99% of the coast surrounding Australia is not netted, only the popular beaches and only in summer.
The point is there’s room for all gods creatures to swim and surf and expect that your local council will have your back.
The stalking and mauling that goes on beneath the ocean surface one creature upon another we can only imagine. They eat it raw.
So if a few sea and acquatic creatures and marine life get caught up in the nets, so what?
This is the kind of schizophrenic, illogical, ideological and knee-jerk emotional inconsistency on safety you get from local government.
