Typical of the smug virtue signaller and the smiley, vacuous, ditzy and dizzy politics of the warm inner glow, by this recognition and decree of a Palestinian State at the UN, Australia, Canada and the UK have created and raised an expectation that may prove impossible to honour and add more tinder to an already volatile situation.
A two state solution has to be negotiated between the two states. I this case Israel and who ever of the Palestinians.
So Albanese et al have recognised a state that has no government, no borders and no acceptable leadership.
Brilliant. Just brilliant. A master stroke of political genius.
It’s a cliche but a cliche worth repeating this is the unalloyed essence of virtue signalling by people full of noble intent with no skin in the game other than their own domestic politics.
What are the details? The where. The when?
The takeaway for Hamas and the PA is that terrorism, hostages as bargaining chips and the use of their own civilians as human shields, works.
It will be decided, understood and interpreted by Hamas that they are winners and that Australia, The UK and Canada are with Hamas and against Israel and when it doesn’t happen there’ll will be howls of, “But you said. You promised”.
One of the reasons America didn’t take out the leadership of Iran when they had the opportunity a few months ago was that there was no movement on the ground and no one waiting in the wings to lead any such movement.
The same applies in this instance.
By not thinking this through with reference to timelines, borders, elections, a constitution and the overall “what happens next” phase, Australia, Canada and Britain have written a cheque that the geopolitical reality in all likelihood may find impossible to cash.
